Ghana Commits US$200m To Boost Tree Crop Production
The Government of Ghana is committing approximately US$200 million to support tree crop production, with the cashew industry expected to benefit substantially from the investment.
The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare, who disclosed this at the closing ceremony and Gala Dinner of the 2026 African Cashew Alliance (ACA) Conference and Expo held in Accra, said the investment formed part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s tree crop sector and unlock greater economic opportunities along the value chain.
The Minister said the cashew industry had considerable potential to contribute to economic growth, particularly through increased production, processing and value addition.
She said the government’s investment would help create opportunities for stakeholders across the tree crop sector while supporting the development of more competitive value chains.
Mrs Ofosu Adjare commended the Tree Crops Development Authority and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for providing a platform for stakeholders in the cashew sector to deliberate on opportunities and challenges confronting the industry.
She also called for stronger cooperation among African cashew-producing countries to maximise the potential of the sector.
According to her, countries such as Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Nigeria, Tanzania and Mozambique should see one another not only as competitors for export markets but also as partners in building a strong and sustainable African cashew industry.
She said greater regional collaboration would enable producing countries to leverage their collective strengths and build a competitive, value-added and globally resilient cashew industry.
The 2026 ACA Conference and Expo brought together stakeholders from across the African cashew value chain to discuss opportunities, challenges and strategies for developing the sector.
