Licensed Tourism Enterprises Sector Records 6.1% Growth- Tourism Minister

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has revealed that the number of licensed tourism enterprises in Ghana has grown from 6,702 in 2024 to 7,109 in 2025, representing a 6.1 per cent increase.

She made this known on Monday at the Government Accountability Series held at the Presidency.

She said the expansion points to a healthier and more formalised tourism sector, with more businesses coming under proper regulation and licensing.

The Minister noted that travel trade enterprises recorded the strongest performance, growing by 18.6 per cent.

She explained that this growth reflects an expanding ecosystem of tour operators, travel agencies, destination services, excursion businesses and tourism intermediaries.

According to her, the trend is helping to create jobs and expand employment in the sector.

“The growth in licensed enterprises came alongside gains in visitor numbers. International tourist arrivals reached 1,306,962 in 2025, up from 1,288,804 in 2024. Domestic tourism grew from 1.68 million visits in 2024 to 1.79 million visits in 2025, a 7 per cent increase. Total revenue generated from arrivals in 2025 stood at 4.34 billion dollars,” she added.

Madam Gomashie noted that star-rated hotels now employ an average of 101 staff each.

“This includes 80 full-time workers, made up of 39 males and 41 females, and 21 temporary staff, made up of 12 males and 9 females,” she said.

She stated that the figures show that tourism is contributing steadily to jobs, revenue and national development, and that the Ministry remains committed to job creation, private sector partnership and inclusive growth.
