President Mahama Demands Strong Local Content in Sentuo Airport Project Development
President John Dramani Mahama has called for strong local participation in the US$1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City Project, urging developers to give Ghanaian firms and workers meaningful opportunities throughout the development.
The President said local content should become a central measure of the project’s success rather than merely a regulatory requirement.
The President made this call during the ceremonial sod-cutting of the Sentuo Airport Harden City project in Accra on Tuesday.
He said Ghanaian engineers, architects, artisans, technicians, suppliers and other local businesses possess the capacity to contribute substantially to the project and should be given fair opportunities to do so.
“Where Ghanaian firms and workers have the required competence, they must be given a fair opportunity to contribute and to grow alongside this investment,” he stated.
President Mahama also emphasised the importance of deliberate skills transfer, saying young people should benefit from apprenticeships and practical training during the construction phase.
He explained that developing local expertise would strengthen Ghana’s construction industry and leave behind a skilled workforce capable of supporting future infrastructure projects.
The President added that local procurement would create stronger linkages between large developments and domestic businesses while ensuring that more value remains within the national economy.
He urged the developers, consultants and contractors to work closely with public institutions and regulatory authorities to facilitate the project while maintaining high standards throughout its implementation.
President Mahama said the Airport Garden City should become a model for future investments by demonstrating how major private developments can promote both economic growth and meaningful Ghanaian participation.
