President Mahama to Lead Accra Reset, Reparatory Justice Agenda at 81st UN General Assembly

President John Dramani Mahama will host two high-level side events at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York to support Africa’s renewal and advance global action on reparatory justice.

A press statement signed by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu on Saturday announced that the first event, a High-Level Event on the Accra Reset, will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, convening world leaders to discuss “Full Circle: Making Global Development Work Again.”

The second event, scheduled for Wednesday, September 23, 2026, will address the “Next Steps” on reparatory justice under the theme “From Commitments to Action on Reparatory Justice: Advancing International Cooperation for the Return and Restitution of Cultural Properties and Heritage.”

The Accra Reset event will bring together world leaders to examine how global development can be made to work for all countries, particularly those in Africa and the Global South. 

The reparatory justice side event will focus on advancing international cooperation for the return and restitution of cultural properties and heritage.

According to the statement, President Mahama will also deliver Ghana’s official statement during the main General Debate at the UN General Assembly on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

In addition to his speech and the two side events, the President will participate in meetings to strengthen partnerships, encourage investment and engage with the diaspora. 

He will also meet with world leaders, the UN Secretary-General and top executives from multinational companies.

To promote Ghana as a leading destination for business and investment, President Mahama will ring the NASDAQ Closing Bell and meet with business leaders at a US-Ghana Presidential Roundtable organised by the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce. 

He will also speak at the Council on Foreign Relations and attend the Ocean Panel Leaders’ Meeting.

On Friday, September 25, President Mahama will host a Town Hall meeting with the Ghanaian community in New York to share updates on his vision for national development.

Accompanying the President are the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, other cabinet ministers, senior officials from the Presidency and other government officials.
