YEA Targets Domestic Services, Delivery and Agriculture Jobs in 2027

• 3 MIN READ

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) plans to introduce four major employment programmes in 2027, targeting domestic services, delivery and logistics, corporate support services, and agriculture to widen job opportunities for young Ghanaians.

Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Malik Basintale, announced the plans during the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House in Accra on Wednesday.

He said the proposed interventions were intended to respond to changing labour market demands and create opportunities for young people with different educational backgrounds and skill levels.

Under the Domestic Services Employment Programme, the YEA intends to recruit and train young people in housekeeping, home management, caregiving and other household support services.

Mr. Basintale said the programme would help professionalise domestic work, which often operates informally, while promoting structured employment arrangements and better protection for workers.

The proposed Youth in Delivery Services Programme will focus on expanding organised delivery and logistics services beyond major urban centres. The Agency’s findings indicate that 10 of Ghana’s 16 regions do not have established delivery services of the type envisaged under the intervention.

The programme is expected to equip young people with the skills and operational support needed to provide delivery services and support businesses requiring reliable transportation and distribution.

Another planned intervention, the Youth in Corporate Services Programme, will create opportunities for both graduates and non-graduates to gain workplace experience and develop skills for corporate and professional support roles.

The fourth initiative, Youth in Agriculture and Farming Support Services, will be pursued through a proposed partnership with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and relevant agencies.

It is expected to create employment in commercial crop production, farm operations, agricultural mechanisation, irrigation support and post-harvest handling, while helping young people develop their own agricultural enterprises.

Beyond the four proposed programmes, the YEA is preparing to implement the Ghana Women and Youth Employment and Social Cohesion Programme (GWYESCO), supported by the African Development Bank.

Mr. Basintale said approximately US$3.6 million, equivalent to GH¢44 million, had been earmarked for the Agency to train and support the employment of 11,200 beneficiaries. Recruitment was expected to begin in the first week of November 2026.

The programme will cover six areas: briquette production, biodigester construction and installation, hospitality and domestic services, construction, sustainable transport services, and beauty care services.

The CEO said the initiatives formed part of the Agency’s broader commitment to creating inclusive employment opportunities, promoting entrepreneurship and preparing young people for emerging sectors of the economy.

He also reported that the YEA had recruited 100,628 beneficiaries by September 30, 2026, representing 75.7 per cent of its annual target of 133,000.

Mr. Basintale said the Agency would continue to pursue partnerships and new interventions to expand access to work and improve the economic prospects of Ghanaian youth.
