The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has called for stronger collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group to support grassroots sports development in Ghana, particularly through the provision of equipment and apparel for school sports programmes.

He appealed when the Executive Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group, Kim Ilbum, paid him a courtesy call on Monday in Accra to discuss opportunities for investment and cooperation in sports development.

The Minister welcomed the vice president and his delegation, which included Ghana’s Ambassador to Korea, Ambassador Christian Codesiu, and representatives Lee Hun and Won Young Kim.

The Minister stressed the need for sustained investment in sports infrastructure and increased participation at the grassroots level, noting that partnerships with international organisations could help identify and nurture young talent.

He said Ghana and Korea intended to explore a partnership to promote grassroots school sports, with the potential to discover talented young athletes and strengthen the wider West African football ecosystem.

He appealed to Hyundai Motor Group to support school sports with essential equipment and apparel, including footballs, boots, athletics gear and other sporting materials, to help create opportunities for young people to develop their abilities.

The meeting also discussed how sports could help youth development, healthier communities and stronger relations between Ghana and Korea. They explored areas of cooperation that could strengthen sports programmes and open up further opportunities for young athletes.

The Executive Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group, Kim Illbum, commended the Minister’s efforts in promoting sports and recreation and reaffirmed the importance of cooperation in advancing sports development.
