Government Calls for Peace and Cleanliness Ahead of Homowo Festival
The Government has called on residents of the Ga State to uphold peace, cleanliness and respect for tradition as preparations intensify for this year’s Homowo festival.
The call was made by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, during the presentation of the President’s annual Homowo donation to the Ga Mantse and the Ga Traditional Council in Accra.
The donation, comprising assorted food items and beverages, forms part of the government’s annual support for the festival and its commitment to preserving Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
Addressing the gathering, Mad. Ocloo said the delegation’s visit was to convey the President’s goodwill to the Ga State and reaffirm the government’s partnership with traditional authorities in promoting national unity and cultural development.
She urged residents of Ga Mashie, the traditional centre of the Homowo celebrations, to use the festival as an opportunity to promote peaceful coexistence, maintain environmental cleanliness and uphold the customs and values that define the Ga people.
The Regional Minister noted that maintaining a clean environment throughout the festivities would complement ongoing sanitation efforts in the capital and contribute to a safe and successful celebration.
The presentation, made on behalf of the President of the Republic, was attended by the Mayor of Accra, Mr Michael Kpakpo Allotey; the Municipal Chief Executive for the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, Mr Alfred Allotey Gaisie; the Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, Mr Alfred Kotey Ashie; and other government officials.
