NCA Procurement Director Urges Girls to Break Gender Barriers in ICT

The Director of Procurement at the National Communications Authority (NCA), Rahmata Issahaq-Pelpuo, has urged young girls to challenge stereotypes and pursue careers in the technology sector.

Speaking at a mentorship workshop hosted for 100 participants under the Girls‑In‑ICT Programme at the NCA Tower, Mrs Issahaq-Pelpuo said the Authority was proud to support initiatives that promote the inclusion of women and girls in ICT.

She encouraged the participants to remain determined in their ambitions despite challenges, stating that ICT is not a field reserved for men.

“We want to whip up your interest and ensure that you move away from the usual thought that ICT is for men alone. If boys are in ICT, we can be there with them,” she told the girls.

The Planning Officer at the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI), Gertrude Aseye Asieni expressed appreciation to the NCA for its consistent support of the Girls‑In‑ICT Programme.

She noted that the opportunity would provide the girls with invaluable exposure to organisations within the ICT ecosystem and enable them to interact with professionals in the technology industry.

The girls, selected from the Volta and Upper East Regions, interacted directly with female professionals across NCA divisions, gaining practical insights into ICT careers. They also received souvenirs to support their education and personal growth.

Organised by the MoCDTI, the mentorship workshop aimed to expose participants to career opportunities in ICT and deepen their appreciation of digital skills in education, employment and entrepreneurship.
