President Mahama Signs 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill into Law
President John Dramani Mahama has signed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill into law.
This gives legal effect to one of the government’s flagship strategies for economic transformation.
The President appended his signature to the bill on Thursday at the Jubilee House in the presence of Cabinet and members of the team that worked on the legislation.
Speaking after signing the bill, President Mahama said Ghanaians have been waiting for the legislation, which will now enable the government to move from strategy to implementation.
“Cabinet Colleagues, I just appended my signature to give assent to the 24-Hour Authority Bill. This Bill Ghanaians have been waiting for, it was one of our flagship strategies for economic transformation,” the President stated.
He acknowledged that the process took time but explained that the government needed to go patiently through the proper legal procedures to give the initiative full legal backing.
“It has taking a while but we needed to go patiently through the process to give legal effect to it and so from now we must move from strategy to implementation,” President Mahama said.
The President noted that the business sector, Ghanaian investors, and foreign investors have been waiting to see the package of incentives the government can provide to enable them to invest more, expand productivity, and create additional employment for young people.
President Mahama congratulated the team that worked on the bill, particularly Goosie Tanoh and his colleagues, expressing gratitude for their efforts in bringing the legislation to fruition.
The 24-Hour Economy Authority will oversee the implementation of the policy, which aims to enable businesses to operate around the clock through a system of incentives and support mechanisms.
The policy is expected to maximize productivity, create jobs, and position Ghana’s economy for accelerated growth by ensuring continuous production, processing, logistics, and service delivery.
