NAS Strengthens Emergency Preparedness by Training Accra Technical University Students

The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has reinforced its commitment to building a more emergency-ready society by equipping students of Accra Technical University’s Medical Laboratory Science Department with essential First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) skills.
The training held was part of activities marking the inauguration of the Medical Laboratory Science Students’ Association (MELSSA) celebrations.
It sought to ensure that future healthcare professionals are prepared to provide immediate assistance during medical emergencies, regardless of their area of practice.
Participants received practical instruction on emergency scene assessment, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), choking management, bleeding control, recovery position techniques, and the appropriate activation of emergency medical services.
Beyond the classroom sessions, students took part in hands-on simulations that recreated real-life emergencies, allowing them to practise life-saving interventions while building the confidence needed to respond effectively under pressure.
Facilitators from the National Ambulance Service underscored the role of First Aid and Basic Life Support in improving patient outcomes, noting that prompt action by trained individuals can make the difference between life and death before professional emergency teams arrive.
The students expressed enthusiasm throughout the training, while executives of the Medical Laboratory Science Students’ Association commended the National Ambulance Service for contributing to their inauguration activities with a programme that provided practical skills of lasting value.
