Ghana, China Strengthen Trade and Investment Ties
The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has affirmed its commitment to supporting investors and strengthening bilateral trade ties that benefit both Ghana and China.
This follows a visit by a seven-member delegation of Chinese entrepreneurs and representatives from Zhenjiang Gongshang University to explore deeper business collaboration, investment and economic cooperation between the two countries.
The Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Mr. Sampson Ahi, received the delegation on behalf of the Minister, in Accra on Monday.
He described the visit as a reflection of the long-standing relationship between Ghana and China.
He said the two countries had maintained close relations for 66 years, adding that government remained committed to deepening bilateral cooperation with China.
“Your investment will be protected. We are ready for business and we will support you as a government,” he said.
He commended China’s zero-tariff initiative, which he said would provide Ghanaian businesses with greater opportunities to access the Chinese market.
He noted Ghana’s strategic position as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, describing the country as an important gateway to the wider African market.
The delegation was led by Professor Haoxing Zhao, Dean of the China-Africa Economic and Trade Research Institute and founder of the China-Africa Bridge, who said the visit was aimed at strengthening trade relations between the two countries and promoting partnerships between Chinese enterprises, universities and Ghanaian institutions.
He added that the delegation was interested in working with Ghana to establish an industrial park to support manufacturing, education and entrepreneurship development.
The visit forms part of ongoing Ghana-China cooperation initiatives, including the “Ghana Day” event held in Hangzhou and the establishment of the Ghana-Hangzhou Economic and Trade Centre, which seeks to connect Ghanaian products, businesses and innovative initiatives with the Chinese market.
