KWADASO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY SUPPORTS 50 PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
The Kwadaso Municipal Assembly, through the Social Welfare and Community Development Department, has supported 50 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with various livelihood items and cash assistance to improve their economic well-being.
The items were presented on Tuesday at a brief ceremony held at the forecourt of the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwadaso, Mr Eric Asibey, said the items were procured from the Assembly’s allocation of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).
He explained that, by law, three per cent of all quarterly releases of the Common Fund is earmarked for programmes and interventions to support Persons with Disabilities.
Mr Asibey cautioned the beneficiaries against selling the items and disclosed that monitoring teams would periodically visit them to assess how the equipment was being utilised. He further explained that the items were procured based on individual requests submitted by the beneficiaries.
The President of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations, Kwadaso Branch, Mr John Nicholas Mensah, commended the government and the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly for the intervention.
Some beneficiaries who received the items and cash assistance also expressed their gratitude to the government and the Assembly, saying the support would help them improve their livelihoods.
The items distributed included deep freezers, washing-bay machines, leather and shoe-making machines, wood-carving machines, tools, clothing irons, phone accessories, second-hand clothes, industrial sewing machines, fufu-making machines and dual-core laptops, among others.
Some beneficiaries also received cash assistance to help settle their medical bills.
The ceremony was attended by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Francis Adu Boateng; the Municipal Director of Social Welfare and Community Development, Mrs Joyce Owusu; the President of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations, Mr John Nicholas Mensah; staff of the Social Welfare Department; and other staff of the Assembly.
