KMA Trains Assembly Members on Leadership, By-Laws to Strengthen Local Governance

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has taken steps to deepen accountable and effective local governance with a two-day capacity-building workshop for Assembly Members in Kumasi.

This training was organised by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, NALAG and the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), with support from the KMA

Speaking at the opening, NALAG President, Mr Alfred Asiedu Adjei, charged Assembly Members to apply what they had learned to improve leadership and service delivery in their electoral areas.

He emphasised that resources and investments under the Assembly’s oversight must “produce value” for residents. 

“Local government is the bedrock of national development,” Mr Asiedu Adjei stated.

The Mayor of Kumasi, Mr Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, thanked the facilitators and expressed confidence that the training would enhance the Assembly Members’ ability to deliver on their mandate.

He added that members are expected to serve the interests of both government and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

Presiding Member, Mr Patrick Kwame Frimpong, also encouraged participants to put the new knowledge into practice for the benefit of the people of Kumasi.
