Foreign Affairs Ministry CAUTIONS Tijjaniya pilgrims to Senegal
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised members of the Tijjaniya Muslim Movement of Ghana travelling to Senegal for pilgrimage to exercise caution when making their travel arrangements.
In a release issued by the Ministry on Saturday in Accra, it said although Senegal remained safe for travellers, there were security concerns along some road corridors leading to Dakar, particularly for people undertaking long-distance journeys by road.
It has therefore urged prospective pilgrims to consider air travel as the preferred and safer means of transportation.
“Prospective travellers are strongly advised to consider travel by air as the most preferred, safe and secure means of transportation,” the statement read.
The Ministry also urged those who had already made arrangements to travel by road to reconsider their plans and opt for air travel.
It said the security concerns along the affected road corridors should be taken into account when planning the journey, while urging travellers to put their personal safety and security first.
“Those who may already be making arrangements to travel by road are hereby urged to reconsider such plans and opt for air travel,” it stated.
The Ministry urged the Tijjaniya Muslim Movement as well as prospective travellers to adhere to this advisory and prioritise their personal safety and security.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates its unwavering commitment to the welfare, safety and protection of Ghanaian nationals and will continue to monitor the situation closely,” it said.
