NCA Welcomes a Seven-Member Delegation from Ericsson
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has received a seven-member delegation from Ericsson to deepen collaboration and share expertise in addressing emerging challenges and opportunities in Ghana’s communications ecosystem.
Led by President and Head of Market Area, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Patrick Johansson, the delegation was received by the Deputy Director General for Technical Operations at the NCA, Suleman Salifu, and the Deputy Director General for Managerial Operations, Mrs Etta Mosore, on behalf of the Director General, Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko.
In his remarks, Mr Salifu noted that as Ghana’s digital agenda continues to evolve, the Authority remains focused on ensuring that communications services are delivered in a secure, reliable and efficient manner.
He said the NCA’s responsibility is not only to create the right regulatory environment for investment and innovation, but also to ensure that consumers and businesses benefit meaningfully from the services deployed by licensed operators.
He added, “The Authority would continue to engage industry players and technology partners in line with its mandate to support a resilient and forward-looking communications ecosystem.”
Discussions during the visit centred on 5G deployment, Quality of Service, cybersecurity, network resilience, sustainable energy solutions and enterprise connectivity for critical sectors such as oil and gas, mining and ports.
Mr Salifu explained that Ghana’s 5G rollout will be guided by strong regulatory oversight, with licence conditions requiring 70 per cent population coverage by March 2027.
“Compliance monitoring would be strengthened to ensure service quality and coverage obligations are met,” he added.
Mrs Mosore noted the importance of partnerships that support knowledge sharing, capacity building, and innovation.
She said collaborations with industry stakeholders should contribute to Ghana’s broader digital transformation agenda and help strengthen the country’s preparedness for emerging technologies.
On behalf of Ericsson, Mr Johansson described the visit as coinciding with Ericsson’s 30 years of operations in Ghana and the NCA’s 30th anniversary.
He reaffirmed Ericsson’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s digital development, welcomed Ghana’s 5G licensing direction and pledged support in areas such as cybersecurity, resilient networks, Artificial Intelligence and digital skills development.
The courtesy call concluded with the Ericsson delegation presenting a commemorative token to mark the 30th anniversaries of both organisations.
