Communication Minister Engages Residents in the Eastern Region

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has engaged directly with residents in the Eastern Region to address connectivity challenges and dispel lingering myths about the dangers of telecommunications masts.

Touring Rural Telephony Project sites in Dumpong, Obosono, Nsakye and a new installation in Koforidua under the 800‑site expansion programme with MTN on Friday, the Minister reassured communities that cell towers pose no health risks.

He explained that the same equipment used on telecom towers is also installed within the Ministry’s own offices and the National Communications Authority building to strengthen indoor coverage.

“If it will harm an individual, we wouldn’t put them in our buildings to improve our own network,” he told stakeholders, urging residents to embrace the infrastructure as vital to reliable service.

The visit also reinforced the government’s digital inclusion agenda. At the Koforidua Regional Information Centre, Mr George observed training sessions under the One Million Coders Programme, where young people are being equipped with coding and digital skills to thrive in Ghana’s modern tech economy.

‘This dual focus on expanding infrastructure while building human capital reflects a holistic transformation agenda aimed at ensuring no community is left behind in Ghana’s digital future,” he said.
