GWL to Introduce Water Demand Management Programme for Eastern Accra Communities
The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) says it will introduce a water demand management programme within two weeks to help residents in parts of the eastern corridor of the Greater Accra Region better manage ongoing water supply challenges.
The affected areas include parts of Kpone-Katamanso, Tema East, Tema West and Ashaiman, among other communities.
Speaking during a tour of the affected areas, GWL’s Public Relations Officer, Stanley Martey, said the initiative would involve dividing the affected communities into three zones to ensure a more coordinated distribution of water.
According to him, the programme will enable residents to plan ahead and store water in preparation for scheduled supply periods.
“We will come out with a rationing programme, or a water demand management programme, and inform the various areas of the days on which they will receive water,” he said.
Mr. Martey said the company was working to improve supply and expected to finalise the programme within one to two weeks before communicating the details to affected communities.
He further explained that GWL engineers had undertaken re-engineering works in some communities to improve water flow and address the persistent supply challenges.
