Works and Housing Minister Calls for Innovative Housing Finance
The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Ahmed Ibrahim, has identified the gap between the demand for decent affordable housing and its supply as one of Ghana’s pressing housing sector challenges.
Speaking at the Africa Real Estate Conference and Expo (ARCE 2026), the Minister said addressing the challenge would require innovative housing finance solutions.
Mr. Ibrahim noted that government has taken steps to widen access to housing finance through the GH¢3 billion revolving National Housing Fund initiative and its mortgage financing arrangements with participating financial institutions.
According to him, the measures are intended to make housing more accessible to Ghanaians.
The Minister further encouraged financial institutions and investors to deepen their participation in affordable housing, mortgage finance, rental accommodation and Real Estate Investment Trusts.
The conference brought together industry leaders, policymakers and investors from across the continent to deliberate on how to plan, finance, develop and manage Africa’s built environment to shape the future of its rapidly growing cities.
