• 2 MIN READ

The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Ahmed Ibrahim, has called on the management and staff of Ghana Water Ltd. (GWL) to strengthen revenue mobilisation and optimise resources to improve the company’s operational efficiency and sustainability.

The Minister made the call during a familiarisation visit to GWL as part of ongoing engagements with agencies under the Ministry to gain firsthand insight into their operations, achievements and challenges.

The visit provided an opportunity for him to interact with management and staff, assess the company’s performance and explore practical measures to strengthen water production and distribution.

Addressing management and staff, Mr. Ibrahim urged them to uphold professionalism, accountability and efficiency in the discharge of their duties. He also noted the need to support the completion of ongoing projects and improve infrastructure planning.

The Minister further called for the use of reliable operational data to inform policy decisions and guide future investments aimed at ensuring a sustainable water supply.

He stated that strengthening the efficiency and sustainability of GWL is a shared responsibility, noting that reliable water supply remains central for public health and national development.

During the meeting, the Managing Director of GWL, Adam Mutawakilu, outlined key challenges affecting service delivery, including the gap between water demand and supply in some communities, infrastructure constraints, illegal connections, revenue losses and pollution of water bodies.

Discussions also centred on improving operational efficiency, expanding infrastructure and strengthening long-term planning to meet the country’s growing water needs.
