GHS Assesses Readiness for Free Primary Healthcare Rollout in Fian

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has stepped up efforts to ensure that residents of Fian in the Daffiama-Busie-Issah District of the Upper West Region are well positioned to benefit from the government’s Free Primary Health Care initiative.

The Director-General of the GHS, Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, together with the District Chief Executive for Daffiama-Busie-Issah, Mr James Wor, visited the community to assess progress in the implementation of the initiative and identify areas requiring further attention.

The visit was part of preparations for the President’s Free Primary Health Care Durbar, which was held at Fian.

During the exercise, Dr Akoriyea and his team engaged community members and health personnel to gain a clearer understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with the rollout. The discussions also provided an opportunity to assess the readiness of local health services and identify gaps that could affect the delivery of quality primary healthcare.

The Director-General was accompanied by the Upper West Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Josephat Ana-Imwine Nyuzaghl, and other health officials.

The monitoring exercise underscores the importance of close collaboration between the GHS, local authorities, health workers, and communities as the Free Primary Health Care initiative is implemented.

The GHS reaffirmed its commitment to addressing identified gaps and strengthening primary healthcare delivery to ensure that residents, particularly those in underserved communities, have access to quality and affordable healthcare.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to promote equitable access to healthcare and bring essential primary health services closer to communities across the country.
