Health Ministry Extends Reporting Deadline for Nurses and Allied Health Professionals

The Ministry of Health has extended the deadline for nurses and allied health professionals who have recently applied for postings to report to their assigned districts from August 24 to August 31, 2026.

The Ministry said the extension applies to health professionals who have completed the required recruitment and posting processes but may not have reported to their assigned facilities within the initial period.

According to the Ministry, applicants who have gone through interviews and screening, reported to their assigned facilities and commenced the necessary processes for their appointment and salary processing are being captured. Some professionals have already received their salaries.

The Ministry also clarified that all recruited professionals must complete the established recruitment, posting and salary processing procedures before payment can be made.

Under the process, the Ministry first receives financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance before opening the recruitment portal for eligible applicants. Applicants then apply for postings to their preferred districts and undergo interviews in their respective districts.

Successful applicants are posted to assigned health facilities, where the facilities confirm their assumption of duty and submit the required documentation to the Ghana Health Service, Christian Health Association of Ghana and other relevant agencies.

An appointment letter is then generated to enable the applicant to complete the processes required for salary input. After the salary input process is completed and validated by the facility, payment is made by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department.

The Ministry said the procedures are intended to ensure that only professionals who have been duly recruited and have assumed duty are paid. It said the process also helps prevent payment for work not done and the creation of ghost names.

The Ministry has directed Human Resource Directors and relevant officers to expedite the necessary processes to ensure that eligible professionals who have reported for duty are captured and processed for salary payment.

Directors and Managers have also been asked to use the September data entry window to process professionals who have assumed duty.

The Ministry warned that professionals who fail to report by the August 31 deadline without an approved and justifiable reason will have their names removed from the recruitment and posting system.

“They will then be replaced through a mop-up exercise scheduled for the first week of September,” he added.

The Ministry therefore urged all affected nurses and allied health professionals to take advantage of the extension and report to their assigned facilities within the stipulated period.
