Ashanti Regional Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Completion of Sawua Regional Hospital

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the Sawua Regional Hospital in the Bosomtwe District, assuring residents that outstanding works on the facility are progressing steadily.

In an update on the project’s status, the Minister disclosed that work on the hospital’s electrical systems was nearing completion.

He added that construction works on the access roads leading to the facility were also at the final stage.

Dr Amoakohene emphasised that the government would continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the timely completion and operationalisation of the hospital for the benefit of residents of the Ashanti Region.

The Sawua Regional Hospital is a 250-bed facility expected to serve as a major referral centre and help reduce pressure on the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

The project has, however, faced prolonged delays, particularly in providing a permanent power connection and completing the access road infrastructure, despite earlier efforts to commission the facility.

Officials have previously indicated that operationalising the hospital, alongside other priority health facilities in the region, remains a key target for 2026 as part of broader efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region.

The latest update on the electrical and road works represents further progress towards making the long-awaited facility fully operational and accessible to the public.
