WOMEN IN GOVERNANCE PAY COURTESY CALL ON ASANTEHEMAA
A delegation of about 40 women serving in high-level political and public governance positions across Ghana has paid a courtesy call on Her Majesty Nana Yaa Akyaa II, Asantehemaa, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
The visit, which took place on Monday, was to formally congratulate the Asantehemaa on her ascension to the throne and seek her guidance, wisdom, and blessings in carrying out their official duties.
The delegation comprised female leaders from various public institutions, including officials from the Presidency, Deputy Ministers, Members of Parliament, Chief Executive Officers, and Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs).
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Madam Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, paid glowing tribute to the Asantehemaa for her pivotal role in preserving Asante culture, promoting peace and national unity, and driving social development initiatives.
Madam Nana Oye Bampoe Addo described Her Majesty as an embodiment of exemplary leadership whose counsel remains invaluable to women in decision-making roles.
“We look to you for leadership, mentorship, and counsel,” she stated.
She also invoked the legacy of Nana Yaa Asantewaa, the legendary Asante Queenmother whose heroism in defending the Golden Stool against British colonial forces continues to serve as an enduring symbol of female courage and national patriotism.
Responding on behalf of the Asantehemaa, her linguist expressed Her Majesty’s deep appreciation to the delegation for the gesture and warm wishes, commending them for their dedication to public service and wishing them success in their respective endeavours.
The visit highlighted the vital intersection of traditional authority, female leadership, and national governance in promoting sustainable development across the country.
