AMA LAUNCHES RECRUITMENT DRIVE FOR YOUTH IN BUKOM UNDER “RESET ACCRA” AGENDA
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has launched a major employment drive targeting unemployed youth, particularly in Bukom, Odododiodio, and surrounding communities, as part of its efforts to strengthen local governance and drive urban renewal.
The initiative is part of the Assembly’s broader “Reset Accra” agenda, which aims to translate national development goals into community-level transformation through job creation, environmental sanitation, and strict enforcement of municipal by-laws.
Addressing residents and youth during a community engagement in Bukom, the Mayor of Accra, Mr Michael Kpakpo Allotey, disclosed that the Assembly is seeking additional personnel to bolster its field operations.
Available roles include day and night revenue collectors, public health town council officers, toll collectors, cleaners, and city guards.
Mr Allotey explained that while existing staff continue to perform these duties, current personnel numbers remain insufficient to cover the capital effectively, necessitating the recruitment drive to rebuild a robust town council system capable of maintaining order.
Highlighting the Assembly’s commitment to fairness and non-partisan enforcement, the Mayor noted that regulatory compliance applies equally to all residents, regardless of political affiliation, citing ongoing legal action against an animal-rearing facility in Bukom over alleged regulatory breaches as evidence of non-selective law enforcement.
The Mayor further assured residents that the administration prioritises dialogue and reasonable notice before taking enforcement measures.
Affected traders and occupants are provided adequate timelines to relocate voluntarily, reducing the need for forced demolitions.
Mr Allotey appealed to the youth of Bukom and neighbouring areas to take advantage of the recruitment exercise, urging them to partner with the Assembly in building a cleaner, safer, and more prosperous capital city.
