Transport Ministry, French Development Agency Explore Rail Partnerships

The Ministry of Transport has met with a delegation from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to explore financing and technical partnerships for Ghana’s transport infrastructure, with a particular focus on railway development.

Welcoming the delegation on Thursday, the sector minister, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, noted that the Ministry is open to partnerships that can help expand and modernise Ghana’s transport infrastructure.

He stated the importance of developing efficient rail systems to move large numbers of passengers and cargo, ease congestion on our roads and ports, and support economic growth.

“The Ministry would provide the AFD team with its priority areas for further engagement,” he added.

The delegation led by the French Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Diarra Dimé-Labille, sought to understand the Ministry’s priority projects and identify areas where French financing, technical expertise and private-sector partnerships could be mobilised.

They also expressed France’s readiness, through the AFD and other relevant institutions, to support projects aligned with Ghana’s national transport priorities.
