RESEARCH DIVISION

OVERVIEW

The Research Division is responsible for the collation of accurate and timely feedback on government policies, programmes, and public perception through scientific research, media monitoring, and documentation.

This ensures government remains informed about public sentiment, national trends, and emerging issues that influence policy delivery and communication.

STATISTICS UNIT

The Statistics Unit is mandated to systematically collect, analyze, and interpret data on public opinion regarding government programmes, policies, and activities. It achieves this by administering questionnaires across all 261 districts through Regional, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Information Officers.

Functions

• Conduct nationwide surveys on matters of public interest.
• Interpret survey results for reports and presentations.
• Provide situational and public reaction reports to government.
• Compile informative factsheets for public communication.
• Develop recommendations based on research outcomes.

MEDIA MONITORING UNIT

The Media Monitoring Unit tracks, analyzes, and interprets information from television, radio, print, and online media sources to capture public opinion and emerging narratives around government policies and programmes.

Functions

• Track public sentiment and assess media impact on government reputation.
• Support crisis communication and misinformation response strategies.
• Generate Presidential Daily Briefings for government.
• Flag demands, allegations, accusations, agitations, and negative press in real-time.
• Generate Morning Show discussion alerts and Midday News alerts for government attention.
• Report Ponzi scheme broadcasts to NMC and SEC for action.

LIBRARY AND DOCUMENTATION UNIT

The Library and Documentation Unit serves as a repository for government documents (past and present), factsheets on major national events, and key public issues.

Functions

• Organize and catalogue information resources for easy access.
• Serve as a reference source for the public and researchers.
• Preserve and archive historical data on events, monuments, and artefacts.

KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS

• Conducted pre and post research surveys on public perception of the Electronic Levy (E-Levy) policy in 2022.
• Successfully conducted a public perception survey on the easing of COVID-19 restrictions in May 2020.
• Organized a nationwide survey in June 2021 on public sentiment regarding national security and confidence in security agencies.
• Successfully executed a survey on the “Making Accra Work Again” initiative in July 2021.
• Maintains unique historical data on national events, monuments, artefacts, and Ghana’s political history.
• Reports to the National Media Commission (NMC) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on media outlets promoting Ponzi schemes.
• Provides factual Presidential Daily Briefings, Morning Show Alerts, and Midday News Reports for government attention.
