About the Information Services Department

Our Legacy

Established in 1939, the Information Services Department (ISD) began as a branch of the Colonial Government Secretariat to convey news during the Second World War. Over eight decades later, we have evolved into the central communications agency of the state.

Today, our mission remains crucial: we are dedicated to ensuring citizens stay informed and engaged, supporting national development through widespread public education and actively gathering grassroots feedback on government policies.

Our Profile & Mandate

We are the principal public relations arm of the Government of Ghana. Operating under the Presidency, our mandate is to create awareness of state programmes while channeling public reactions back to decision-makers.

Our Operations are Guided By:

• The 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana
• The Civil Service Act, 1993 (PNDCL 327)
• The Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989)
• The Local Government Act, 1993 (Act 462)
