Communication Ministry Partners UNDP to Drive Digital Ecosystem and Innovation

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Mr. Samuel George Nartey has recapped the Government’s commitment to building a healthy and digital ecosystem, whiles strengthening alignment with development partners to accelerate Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
He made this known on Friday whiles engaging with the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) in Accra
Mr. Samuel George Nartey noted the use of the UNESCO RAM (Readiness Assessment Methodology) model as a key tool in continuing the planning and implementation.
He explained that it has been instrumental in identifying priority intervention areas and distinguishing between initiatives that are ready for deployment and those requiring further refinement.
The Minister also provided updates on ongoing discussions towards the establishment of a national fintech fund, which is being aligned with the forthcoming Innovation and Startup legislative framework.
He explained that the framework will define clear eligibility criteria for startups and innovators, while anchoring the fund in law to ensure sustainability and promote stronger private sector participation.
The Representative of UNDP in Ghana, Mr. Niloy Banerjee, provided updates on three key areas of cooperation, namely the Italian-supported digital flagship project, the MSME digital platform initiative, and the Japanese-backed AI for public services programme.
Mr. Banerjee also emphasized the importance of enhanced government participation, including co-financing arrangements, to unlock additional development partner funding and ensure the successful implementation of flagship projects.
The engagement further explored a proposed AI and digital governance capacity building programme for the Civil Service, aimed at strengthening policy formulation and institutional capacity in emerging technologies. The programme is expected to be delivered in multiple cohorts, with deliberate emphasis on gender inclusion.
