The family of Ambassador James Victor Gbeho has paid a courtesy call on President John Dramani Mahama to formally notify him of the passing of the veteran diplomat and statesman.
The delegation told the President it was both culturally and diplomatically important to inform him of the loss through the proper channels before the news was shared publicly.
Ambassador Gbeho was one of Ghana’s most distinguished figures in international affairs, having served across several diplomatic missions including in New York, where he represented the country at the United Nations.
He served as Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Member of Parliament for the Anlo constituency, and President of the ECOWAS Commission, a role formerly known as Executive Secretary.
He was widely respected across West Africa and beyond for his work in advancing regional integration and his contributions to multilateral diplomacy on the global stage.
President Mahama received the family’s delegation and expressed his condolences, sharing reflections on Ambassador Gbeho’s service to Ghana, to West Africa and to the international community.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
