Gender Ministry Reaffirms Commitment to Women’s Leadership Development
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting programmes that create opportunities for women to participate effectively in leadership and decision-making.
She made the statement when a delegation from the Ghana Employers Association (GEA), led by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Alex Frimpong, paid a courtesy call on her in Accra to discuss the Female Future Programme and explore areas of collaboration.
She said interventions that promote women’s empowerment and leadership development were important to advancing gender equality.
Dr Lartey asked the Association to submit a comprehensive concept note on the proposed programme to enable the Ministry to review it and provide the necessary technical input.
She also said the Ministry would engage the appropriate leadership and relevant stakeholders to explore areas of collaboration, adding that the programme should be adapted to Ghana’s local context and priorities.
The Chief Executive Officer of GEA, Mr Alex Frimpong, said the Association was seeking to extend the programme to female Members of Parliament.
He noted that similar programmes implemented in other African countries had produced positive results.
He expressed the Association’s interest in working with the Ministry to facilitate the implementation of the programme in Ghana.
He briefed the minister on the Female Future Programme, a leadership development initiative that has been implemented in Ghana for the past eight to nine years.
The programme equips women in senior management with knowledge, skills and confidence to take up higher leadership positions. It focuses on leadership development, effective communication, governance and other competencies needed for executive and strategic leadership.
