Ghana Appeals for African Backing in Telecom Councils
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has urged African member states to unite in strengthening the continent’s representation in the International Telecommunication institutions.
Speaking at the 7th Ordinary Session of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) Conference of Plenipotentiaries (CPL-26) in Abuja, Nigeria, the Minister noted Ghana’s track record of championing digital inclusion, innovation, and regional cooperation.
He stated that Ghana’s continued presence on the ATU Council and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council would ensure Africa’s priorities remain central to global telecommunications policy.
Mr George also underscored the importance of technical expertise in shaping the digital economy, calling on member states to support the re-election of Ing. Edmund Fianko to the ITU Radio Regulations Board.
He praised Fianko’s contributions to international spectrum management and telecommunications regulation as vital assets for Africa’s representation.
The Minister pledged Ghana’s commitment to advancing policies that expand meaningful connectivity and accelerate digital transformation across the continent.
“Stronger African representation in global telecommunications governance is essential to securing the continent’s influence in shaping the future of the digital economy,’ he concluded.
