Ghana, China Explore Stronger TVET Partnerships to Create Jobs

• 1 MIN READ

Ghana is seeking stronger cooperation with China to improve technical skills training, promote technology transfer and expand employment opportunities for young people.

The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, said partnerships between the two countries could help equip young people with practical skills to meet the changing demands of industry.

He made the call at the China–Africa Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Conference in Tianjin, China, where he outlined Ghana’s efforts to make vocational training more responsive to the needs of employers.

Dr Apaak highlighted initiatives such as competency-based training, apprenticeships and partnerships with businesses, which are intended to bridge the gap between classroom learning and workplace requirements.

He also cited the Ghana TVET Voucher Project, which has supported more than 37,000 apprentices and informal-sector workers to acquire practical skills for employment and self-employment.

Dr Apaak stressed the need for closer collaboration between governments, training institutions and industry to strengthen workplace learning and ensure that vocational training translates into better job prospects.

He said deeper Ghana–China cooperation in skills development and technology transfer could support entrepreneurship, strengthen the workforce and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
