Ghana, Sierra Leone Deepen Cooperation on Land Administration Reforms
The Chief Director of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Innocent Marcus Haligah, has called on Ghana and Sierra Leone to openly exchange ideas and learn from each other’s experiences in land administration.
Mr Haligah made the remarks when he welcomed a 10-member delegation from Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning and the National Land Commission to the Ministry.
The delegation paid the visit to learn about Ghana’s land policy, administration and ongoing reforms.
He expressed confidence that the engagement would strengthen collaboration and contribute to improved land governance across West Africa.
The leader of the delegation, Mr Alusine Sesay, said Sierra Leone chose Ghana because of the similarities between the two countries and Ghana’s progress in land administration.
He noted that Sierra Leone’s National Land Commission is still evolving and that the visit would help the delegation better understand Ghana’s reform journey, including its successes and challenges.
Mr Sesay added that the delegation was particularly interested in learning how Ghana had addressed obstacles encountered during its land sector reforms, saying those lessons would help shape Sierra Leone’s own efforts to strengthen land administration.
The engagement forms part of efforts by the two countries to deepen cooperation and promote the exchange of best practices in land management.
