Gov’t Calls for Institutional Collaboration to Address the Country’s Climate Change Challenges
The Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Mr Seidu Issifu, has called on Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to adopt a coordinated and holistic approach to address the country’s growing climate change challenges.
He made the call at the Inter-Ministerial and Agency Technical Working Group Meeting, held on Tuesday in Accra.
He noted that climate change is no longer an issue a single institution or sector can address, highlighting that its cross-cutting nature requires stronger collaboration and clearly defined institutional responsibilities.
“Ghana’s exposure to climate-related risks makes it imperative for government to strengthen its coordination mechanisms to ensure that climate interventions are effectively implemented and that resources are mobilised and deployed where they are most needed,” he stated.
According to the Minister, a coordinated approach would help strengthen institutional collaboration, improve accountability and enhance the country’s ability to mobilise resources to address both immediate climate emergencies and long-term resilience needs.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening inter-ministerial and institutional collaboration in addressing the country’s growing climate change challenges.
“Climate action must address both the immediate realities facing our people and the longer-term structural vulnerabilities created by climate change,” he said.
He emphasised that Ghana must therefore strengthen its capacity to anticipate climate-related risks, build resilient communities and institutions, and mobilise the resources needed to protect the country’s development gains.
He expressed appreciation to the various Ministries, Departments, Agencies and other institutions for their continued commitment to advancing Ghana’s climate change and sustainability agenda.
