NAS Establishes First Ambulance Station at Takoradi Airport
The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has deployed a fully equipped ambulance to Takoradi Airport, paving the way for the establishment of the airport’s first-ever ambulance station to improve emergency medical response on Tuesday.
The ambulance was formally handed over to the management of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) at a brief ceremony at the airport. The NAS delegation was led by Regional Administrators, PCAEMT Frank Baffour Manu and PAEMT Ayanah Musah Abdulai.
The initiative will provide dedicated pre-hospital emergency medical care for passengers, airline crew, airport staff and visitors, ensuring that medical emergencies within the airport are attended to promptly.
With the deployment, the Service is expected to respond more quickly to emergencies within the airport enclave, provide immediate first aid and stabilise patients before transferring them to appropriate health facilities. The arrangement will also support emergency medical response during aviation-related incidents.
The move is particularly significant given Takoradi Airport’s role in supporting Ghana’s oil and gas industry and the expanding commercial activities in the Western Region. A dedicated ambulance station is expected to strengthen the airport’s emergency preparedness and improve safety for its growing number of users.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the NAS Regional Administrator reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to extending pre-hospital emergency care to strategic national installations to ensure that medical assistance is readily available wherever it is needed.
Management of Takoradi Airport welcomed the intervention and expressed appreciation to the National Ambulance Service and also assured the Service that the ambulance would be properly maintained and used for its intended purpose.
