President Mahama Cuts Sod for US$1.3 Billion Sentuo Airport Garden City Project
President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of the US$1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City Project in Accra.
The mixed-use development, located within the airport enclave, will comprise 582 premium apartments, a 600-room hotel, a 2,500-capacity conference facility, healthcare services, a modern shopping mall, landscaped gardens, 503 parking bays and a range of commercial and leisure amenities.
Delivering the keynote address at the event, President Mahama said the airport enclave creates the first impression many visitors have of Ghana and stressed the need for coordinated development that enhances the experience of residents, travellers and investors.
“We must develop this important gateway in a coordinated manner that improves the experience of residents, travellers and investors, while enhancing Accra’s standing as a modern, competitive African capital city,” he said.
The President noted that although the project would deliver substantial physical infrastructure, its greatest contribution should be measured by the jobs, business opportunities and improved urban environment it creates for Ghanaians.
He said the development would strengthen Accra’s tourism and hospitality sector by expanding accommodation, conferencing, healthcare and retail services within the capital.
President Mahama recalled that Government recently broke ground for a seven-storey airport complex comprising 2,030 parking bays, two hotels and commercial facilities under the Ghana Airports Company Limited.
He said the Airport Garden City Project complements that public investment and represents an important private sector contribution to the transformation already taking place around the airport enclave.
The President further urged public institutions to work closely with the developers to resolve legitimate bottlenecks promptly while safeguarding the public interest throughout the project’s implementation.
He expressed confidence that upon completion, the development would create sustained employment, support Ghanaian enterprises and strengthen Accra’s position as a leading destination for business, tourism and international conferences in Africa
