The Ghana Navy has taken over security responsibilities at the seat of government from the Ghana Army, following the 48th Change of Guard Ceremony at the forecourt of Jubilee House.
President John Dramani Mahama, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, presided over the formal handover on Monday, which transfers guard duties between the two services for the next three months.
The ceremony, one of the Ghana Armed Forces’ longstanding traditions, was conducted with the precision and discipline that has come to define the periodic military ritual at the Presidency.
A number of government officials and senior military officers attended, including the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak; the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey; the Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi; and the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Apaak.
The Chief of the Defence Staff, Service Chiefs and senior military officers were also present.
Students from selected schools attended the ceremony, giving young Ghanaians the opportunity to observe one of the military’s ceremonial traditions firsthand.
The Change of Guard Ceremony is held periodically at Jubilee House and serves as a formal demonstration of the Armed Forces’ commitment to protecting the Presidency and safeguarding the country’s democratic institutions.
