Roads Minister, Ashanti Regional Minister Inspect Major Road Projects in Ashanti Region
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Kwame Governs Agbodza, together with the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has inspected several major road infrastructure projects in the Ashanti Region to assess progress and work quality.
The inspection team re-inspected ongoing works on the Outer Kumasi Ring Road, which passes through Atia, Juaben, Effiduase, Asokore Mampong, Tanodumase, Kwabre, Buoho and several other municipalities and districts, creating an important orbital route around the Garden City of Kumasi.
The team also inspected the Abidjan Nkwanta–Kuntenase, Kuntenase–Sewua and Kuntenase–Ejisu road projects, as well as other ongoing road infrastructure works within the Bosomtwe District.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Ministers and other stakeholders to assess the quality and pace of work, identify challenges affecting the projects and engage contractors on measures to ensure their timely completion.
Other projects inspected included the ongoing works at the Suame Roundabout, Sofoline Interchange and the Bekwai Roundabout–Santasi Highway.
According to the Minister for Roads and Highways, the inspection forms part of the Government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure, enhancing transportation and facilitating the smooth movement of people and goods within the Ashanti Region.
He noted that the Outer Kumasi Ring Road is distinct from the Kumasi Expressway and is designed to improve connectivity, decongest the city and open up new opportunities for communities along the corridor.
The Ministers emphasised the need for contractors to maintain the required standards while accelerating the pace of work to ensure that the projects are completed within the agreed timelines for the benefit of residents and other road users.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, commended the contractors for the quality of work done so far and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to delivering the infrastructure needed to transform the Ashanti Region and Ghana as a whole.
Meanwhile, the contractor working on the Suame Road Project, Rango Construction, assured the Minister for Roads and Highways that Phase II of the project, comprising three overpasses and the inner roads, will be completed and ready for use by the end of October 2026.
The completion of Phase II is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and enhance mobility for motorists, commuters, and other road users in the area.
