Stakeholders Review National Plan to Combat Human Trafficking

• 2 MIN READ

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is working with key stakeholders to develop a new National Plan of Action (NPA) to strengthen Ghana’s efforts to prevent human trafficking, protect victims and prosecute offenders.

The Ministry, through its Human Trafficking Secretariat, convened a Technical Working Group (TWG) meeting in Accra.to review progress, identify gaps and propose strategies to improve the country’s response to the crime.

Discussions focused on the availability and classification of human trafficking data, resource mobilisation and funding for anti-trafficking interventions. Participants also highlighted the need for stronger monitoring and data collection systems, as well as improved coordination among institutions and development partners.

The meeting stressed that reliable data would be essential to guide evidence-based planning, measure progress and provide a clearer picture of the resources committed by government institutions and development partners to combat human trafficking.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister, the Director of the Human Trafficking Secretariat, Abena Annobea Asare, underscored the importance of stakeholder collaboration in developing a practical and effective National Plan of Action.

She urged all partners to remain committed to addressing identified gaps and strengthening interventions to prevent trafficking, protect victims and ensure offenders are prosecuted.

The Ministry said it would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to advance the development of the new plan and promote a more coordinated national response towards eliminating human trafficking in Ghana.
