The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Ali Adolf John, has described the late Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Yaa Naa Abubakari II, as a towering symbol of peace, wisdom, unity and cultural pride.
In a statement following the official announcement of the Kingโs passing on Monday, by Naa-Yab Kugnaa, Mr Ali Adolf John said the demise of the Yaa Naa is a national tragedy that extends beyond the boundaries of the Dagbon Kingdom.
Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Government of Ghana, the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC), and the people of the Northern Region, the Minister extended heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family, the Dagbon Traditional Council, chiefs, elders and people of Dagbon.
He noted that throughout his reign, Ndan Yaa Naa Abubakari II dedicated himself to strengthening the institution of chieftaincy while promoting reconciliation, dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
โHis wise leadership, humility and unwavering commitment to justice earned him admiration and respect across Ghana and beyond,โ Mr Ali Adolf John stated.
The Minister added that the late monarch consistently provided wise counsel on national peace and security and was a strong advocate for development initiatives that improved the welfare of the people of Dagbon and the Northern Region.
Describing him as a father to all, Mr Ali Adolf John said the Yaa Naaโs reign reflected selfless leadership, dignity and a deep commitment to safeguarding the rich customs and traditions of Dagbon.
While mourning the revered King, the Regional Minister called on the people of Dagbon to remain calm, united and law-abiding during the mourning period.
He urged the public to respect the customs, traditions and established succession processes of the Kingdom, stressing that peace remains the greatest tribute to the late Yaa Naa.
Mr. Ali Adolf John assured that the Regional Security Council, in collaboration with the Dagbon Traditional Council, would work to maintain peace, security and public order throughout the funeral rites.
He also appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies and adhere to directives from traditional authorities.
He concluded by praying to Almighty Allah to grant the late Ndan Yaa Naa Abubakari II eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus and to grant strength and comfort to the Royal Family and the entire people of Dagbon.
โAlthough Dagbon has lost a distinguished King, the enduring legacy of Ndan Yaa Naa Abubakari II’s exemplary leadership and commitment to unity will forever remain an integral part of Ghana’s history,โ he said.
