Bosome Freho DCE Commissions Modern Two-Unit KG Block at Mamfi
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Bosome Freho District in the Ashanti Region, Mr Charles Appiah-Kubi, has commissioned a newly constructed two-unit Kindergarten (KG) block with ancillary facilities at Mafi D/A Basic School at Mamfi.
The facility, funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and executed by the Bosome Freho District Assembly, is intended to provide a safe, conducive and child-friendly environment for early childhood education. It comprises two spacious classrooms, an office, a store and child-friendly washrooms.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Thursday at Mamfi, was chaired by the Kokofu Nkabomhene, Nana Kwadwo Atefuah, who represented the Paramount Chief of the Kokofu Traditional Council.
The ceremony was attended by traditional leaders, the District Coordinating Director and heads of departments, the District Director of Education, Mr L. Anin Bruce, staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Assembly Members, School Management Committee (SMC) and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) executives, teachers, pupils and members of the community.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Appiah-Kubi said education remains a major priority of the government and the Bosome Freho District Assembly.
He explained that before the construction of the facility, pupils at Mafi were learning under difficult conditions, including overcrowded and dilapidated structures that were not conducive to effective teaching and learning.
He said the project demonstrated the government’s commitment to eliminating schools under trees and ensuring that every child, regardless of where he or she lived, had access to quality educational infrastructure.
The DCE disclosed that in 2026 alone, the Assembly had constructed six-unit classroom blocks at Tebeso II and Damascus, as well as a three-unit classroom block at Fereso, in addition to supporting the District Education Directorate.
Mr Appiah-Kubi appealed to the Ghana Education Service, teachers, the SMC, PTA and the community to take ownership of the facility, protect it and ensure its proper maintenance so that it could serve future generations.
He also urged the pupils to be punctual, disciplined and committed to their studies to make Mafi and the Bosome Freho District proud.
The District Director of Education for Bosome Freho, Mr L. Anin Bruce, expressed appreciation to the District Assembly for its continued investment in education.
He called on school authorities, teachers, parents and community members to take responsibility for the new facility and ensure its proper upkeep.
He also highlighted the shortage of teachers in the district, particularly in the Nsuta Circuit, stressing that the provision of classroom infrastructure alone could not guarantee quality education without adequate numbers of qualified and committed teachers.
According to him, the lack of decent accommodation for teachers in some communities was also a major challenge, as some teachers were compelled to travel long distances to work, affecting punctuality and effective teaching.
He therefore appealed to the District Assembly, traditional authorities, communities and development partners to support the construction of decent accommodation for teachers to help attract and retain qualified teachers in the district.
Mr Bruce further disclosed that the Ghana Education Service in Bosome Freho was preparing for its upcoming Teachers’ Awards to recognise and motivate hardworking teachers who continued to dedicate themselves to educating children, often under challenging circumstances. He appealed to individuals, businesses, organisations, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to support the programme through sponsorship.
The District Director also called for the establishment of a scholarship scheme to support brilliant but financially disadvantaged Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates in the district. He said many parents struggled to provide the items required for their children’s Senior High School (SHS) education, making it difficult for some deserving students to continue their education.
He therefore appealed to the District Assembly, Members of Parliament, traditional leaders, philanthropists, corporate organisations and non-governmental organisations to establish or support a scholarship scheme for deserving BECE graduates.
He stressed that such support would help prevent children from putting an end to their education because of financial difficulties.
On behalf of the Kokofu Traditional Council, Nana Kwadwo Atefuah expressed gratitude to the Bosome Freho District Assembly for its development interventions in the area.
He pledged the continued support of the Traditional Council to the government and the Assembly in their efforts to promote development.
Nana Atefuah, however, appealed to the DCE to give urgent attention to the deplorable condition of roads in the area. He said the poor state of the roads was negatively affecting economic activities and limiting access to healthcare and educational services.
