The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, has linked the long-term socio-economic growth of the region directly to sustained peace and stability, declaring that major development initiatives require a secure environment to succeed.
Speaking at the inauguration of the newly reconstituted Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) on Thursday at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) Conference Hall, the Minister emphasised that security was a vital foundation for economic progress rather than merely a law enforcement exercise.
Mr Adolf noted that regional goals, including infrastructure expansion, business growth, and job creation under the administration of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, can only achieve maximum impact if law, order, and public safety are guaranteed.
The reconstituted council operates under the Security and Intelligence Act, 2026 (Act 1168), which expands REGSEC’s composition to include traditional authorities, religious leaders, youth organisations, and community stakeholders alongside conventional security agencies.
The expanded platform aims to shift the regional security approach from relying solely on “boots on the ground” to leveraging community wisdom, local intelligence, and proactive dispute resolution.
Key priorities and operational guidelines outlined for the reconstituted Council include: preventative security management, continuous capacity building, civic education and integrated collaboration.
The Minister also commended the region’s security services for their professional conduct during the funeral of the late Ya-Na, Overlord of Dagbon, and the subsequent installation of his Regent, citing the successful management of those major traditional events as proof of the region’s operational readiness when institutions work in unity.
Mr Ali Adolf John concluded by formally declaring the reconstituted Northern Regional Security Council duly inaugurated, charging all members to uphold the law and work collectively to safeguard lives, property, and the developmental future of the Northern Region.
