Upper East Regional Hospital Appeals for Help to Fight Hepatitis

Authorities of the Upper East Regional Hospital have appealed for help from philanthropists, Non-governmental Organisations (NGO) and the general public to fight Hepatitis.

To this end, they are calling for donations and vaccines to carry out mass testing and hepatitis vaccination for marginalised groups, including people living with disabilities, children in orphanages and the poor who are unable to afford these medical services.

Madam Rosemary Kayeeb, a staff member of the hospital, made the call on Friday, when the hospital extended free hepatitis testing and vaccination services to the members of the disability community in the Bolgatanga Municipality.

The Upper East Chapter President of the Ghana Federation of Disability (GFD) Organisations, Mr Akurubire Mark Atiah Ishmael, expressed his joy at the free health services and commended the Management and team from the regional hospital, noting that his members were very appreciative of the gesture.

Mr Akurubire described the intervention as “very helpful and welcoming,” saying his members couldn’t have afforded such a critical health care service on their own.

The GFD President used the opportunity to urge families with PWDs to encourage them to join the Federation, saying it is active in the 15 Municipalities/Districts of the Upper East Region.

He said the Federation has the genuine welfare of all PWDs and is well positioned to advocate and fight for their rights while educating them on their responsibilities, as prescribed in the Ghanaian Constitution.
