Ahafo Ano South-East District Tops 2026 BECE Rankings in Ashanti Region
The Ahafo Ano South-East District in the Ashanti Region has emerged as the best-performing district in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), ranking first among the 43 districts in the region and third nationwide.
The District Director of Education for Ahafo Ano South-East, Mr Hamid Kramo, disclosed that out of the 1,752 candidates who sat for the examination in the district, more than 600 obtained aggregate scores between six and nine.
He said the achievement reflects the commitment and collective efforts of teachers, school authorities, parents, learners and other stakeholders towards improving the quality of education in the district.
Mr Kramo stated this during the commissioning and handover of a newly constructed three-unit classroom block with toilet facilities to the Banahenekrom Junior High School (JHS).
He noted that the district’s performance was particularly significant because it was achieved despite numerous challenges, explaining that Ahafo Ano South-East is among the less privileged districts in terms of educational resources and infrastructure.
According to him, the district’s first-place ranking in the Ashanti Region is a clear indication that the hard work and dedication of teachers, learners and other stakeholders are yielding positive results.
Mr Kramo further indicated that the district also placed third nationwide in the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA) Ghana Schools Awards, highlighting the growing national recognition of its educational achievements.
He said the accomplishment should motivate all stakeholders to intensify their efforts to consolidate the gains made and further improve the district’s performance in future examinations and national rankings.
The District Director attributed the strong performance partly to the support received from the Ahafo Ano South-East District Assembly and the Member of Parliament, Mr Yakubu Mohammed.
He noted that the District Chief Executive, Mr Nelson Yamba Isaka Ibrahim, and the Member of Parliament have consistently supported education through financial and material assistance.
According to him, such interventions have complemented the efforts of the Ghana Education Service and helped create an enabling environment for teachers and learners to perform effectively.
Mr Kramo expressed appreciation to the District Assembly and the Member of Parliament (MP) for prioritising education and investing in educational infrastructure, as well as teaching and learning materials.
The District Director also revealed that the district had received 80 newly posted teachers, describing the development as a major boost to education delivery.
However, he appealed to community leaders and other stakeholders to provide accommodation for the new teachers, particularly those posted to deprived and hard-to-reach communities. He explained that the lack of suitable accommodation in some communities could discourage teachers from accepting postings or affect their ability to remain at post and perform effectively.
He therefore urged traditional authorities, assembly members, opinion leaders and other stakeholders to collaborate with the Education Directorate to address the accommodation challenge.
Mr Kramo emphasised that improved educational infrastructure was crucial to sustaining the district’s academic gains, noting that good academic performance requires adequate facilities and resources.
He added that the newly commissioned classroom block was expected to improve the teaching and learning environment at Banahenekrom JHS.
The District Education Director called for continued support from all stakeholders to ensure that the district not only maintains its enviable position but also works towards becoming the best-performing district in the country.
He stressed that the achievement should not be seen as an end in itself, but rather as motivation to intensify efforts to provide quality education for children across the district.
