Health Ministry Dismisses False Ebola Outbreak Claims

The Ministry of Health has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that Ghana has recorded 2,300 Ebola cases with 930 deaths, describing the publication as false and misleading.

In a press release issued by the Ministry, it said it had taken notice of a publication attributed to SABC News Channel, which suggested that Ghana was experiencing an Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak.

The Ministry stated that Ghana has not recorded any case of Ebola and urged the public to disregard the figures being circulated.

“The figures being circulated are false, misleading and should be disregarded,” it said.

The Ministry explained that the recent visit by the Minister for Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to points of entry, laboratories and treatment facilities formed part of Ghana’s routine preparedness activities to strengthen the country’s capacity to prevent and respond to possible public health emergencies.

It clarified that the preparedness measures do not suggest the presence of an Ebola outbreak in Ghana.

The Ministry called on the public to rely on verified information from the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service and avoid sharing unconfirmed reports that could create unnecessary fear and panic.

It urged citizens and residents to seek updates through official communication channels for accurate information on public health matters.
