Deputy Communication Minister Calls on Students to Uphold Democratic Values and Informed Discourse
The Deputy Minister of Communication, Digital Technologies and Innovations, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, has urged the Association of Philosophy & Classic Arts (APHICLAS) to continue creating platforms that promote informed public discourse, critical thinking and ethical leadership.
Delivering a keynote address on behalf of the Sector Minister, Samuel Nartey George, at the APHICLAS@15 Grand Durbar held at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana, he described the celebration as a testament to the Association’s commitment to scholarship, intellectual inquiry and meaningful engagement on issues of national importance.
Mr Sukparu commended APHICLAS for selecting a discussion theme that encourages thoughtful national discourse on constitutional governance, individual rights, public morality, culture and the responsibilities of the State.
He noted that universities play a vital role in challenging ideas, promoting reasoned debate and preparing young people to become responsible leaders capable of addressing the country’s complex development challenges.
The Deputy Minister mentioned that one of the greatest strengths of any democracy is its ability to accommodate differing opinions while maintaining national unity.
He therefore urged students to cultivate the ability to interrogate evidence, challenge assumptions, embrace critical thinking and develop practical solutions that will contribute to Ghana’s socio-economic development and preserve democratic values.
According to him, meaningful progress is achieved when citizens engage one another respectfully, thoughtfully and within the framework of the Constitution.
Reaffirming Government’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and upholding the rule of law, the Deputy Minister encouraged participants to approach public policy discussions with intellectual honesty, mutual respect and a commitment to peaceful dialogue.
