Climate Action Must Improve Access to Water, Food and Livelihoods- Climate Change Minister
The Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Mr Seidu Issifu, has called for climate action that provides practical solutions to the everyday challenges facing vulnerable communities.
He noted that climate change extends beyond environmental concerns and affects people’s access to water, food and livelihoods.
The Minister made the remarks on Thursday during the commissioning of four boreholes constructed in Poringong, Wangau, Gambaga and Nanyeri with support from the National Investment Bank to improve access to safe drinking water in the North East Region.
Mr Issifu said climate change has a direct impact on people’s access to water, food and livelihoods.
He said efforts to address climate change must focus on improving the living conditions of vulnerable populations through practical interventions that respond to their immediate needs.
According to the Minister, investing in adaptation measures that address local challenges is one of the most effective ways to help communities cope with the effects of climate change while improving their resilience.
Mr Issifu said building resilient communities requires the combined efforts of government, financial institutions, development partners, traditional authorities and local communities.
He called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to implement sustainable solutions that respond to the realities faced by people most affected by climate change.
The boreholes are expected to provide a reliable source of clean water, improve sanitation and public health, and reduce the time women and children spend travelling long distances in search of water.
