Agric Ministry, AAC Partner to Launch 750 Acre Vegetable Production Hub for Returning Graduates
The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has partnered with the African Agribusiness Consortium (AAC) to establish a 750-acre vegetable production hub to help 118 Ghanaian graduates from the People’s Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) transition into commercial agriculture.
Under the partnership, the Ministry will provide irrigated land for the project while AAC will supply the required logistics and pay for irrigation water costs.
The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr Eric Opoku, announced the initiative when the Ministry welcomed the graduates, whose postgraduate studies were sponsored by the Jospong Group of Companies through the African Agribusiness Consortium.
Mr Opoku said the graduates’ return would strengthen Ghana’s agricultural transformation efforts and support the implementation of the Feed Ghana Programme.
The graduates comprise 88 specialists in Agronomy and 30 specialists in Ecology.
They are expected to contribute to commercial farming, agricultural research, extension services and sustainable agricultural development.
Their expertise is also expected to strengthen food security, create employment opportunities and support the modernisation of Ghana’s agricultural sector.
