Government Commissions Ultra-Modern Minerals Commission Office Complex in Kumasi

The government has commissioned the newly constructed and modernly equipped Ashanti Regional Office Complex of the Minerals Commission in Kumasi, with the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, describing the completion of the project as a strong demonstration of continuity in governance.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by Nananom, the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Yusif Sulemana, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)of the Minerals Commission, Mr Isaac Andrews Tandoh, members of the Commission’s leadership, industry players and other key stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Dr Amoakohene commended the previous administration for initiating the project, noting that its completion under the current administration demonstrates a commitment to continuity and responsible governance.

He explained that, under the direction of President John Dramani Mahama, the government had chosen to continue and complete worthwhile projects inherited from previous administrations.

“Public projects are not the property of political parties or individual governments. They are investments made in the interest of the Ghanaian people,” he stated.

The Regional Minister said the approach sets an important precedent for Ghana’s democracy, stressing that no government should allow a worthwhile project to go to waste simply because it was initiated by a predecessor.

“Where public resources have been committed, and a project serves a legitimate national interest, the responsibility of every successive government should be to complete it, improve it and deliver its intended benefits to the people,” he said.

Dr Amoakohene noted that the new Minerals Commission office complex represents more than a modern facility, describing it as a symbol of continuity, institutional development and responsible governance.

He further commended President Mahama, the sector minister, the Chief Executive Officer and the leadership of the Minerals Commission for demonstrating the principle of continuity in practice.

“This is the direction all successive governments should take. We must build on what works, complete what has been started, improve what requires improvement, and ensure that no valuable public investment is abandoned for political reasons,” he said.

“The ultimate beneficiary is not the government of the day; it is the Ghanaian people,” he concluded.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Mr Isaac Andrews Tandoh, said the modern office complex would strengthen mineral testing, technical assessment and regulatory monitoring in Ghana’s mining sector.

He noted that the complex, which includes a two-storey laboratory facility, would significantly boost the Commission’s technical capacity and improve service delivery.

According to him, the new facility is expected to enhance the Commission’s operations in the Ashanti Region and support more effective regulation and oversight of the mining sector.

The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Yusif Sulemana, also highlighted ongoing efforts by the government to address inefficiencies in mining regulation through the decentralisation of the Minerals Commission’s operations across the country.

He said the newly constructed Ashanti Regional Office in Kumasi would serve as a major hub for addressing mining-related challenges in the region.

According to the Deputy Minister, decentralising the Commission’s operations will strengthen regulatory monitoring, improve service delivery and ensure effective oversight of the mining sector across the country.

The commissioning of the ultra-modern office complex is expected to further strengthen the Minerals Commission’s capacity to regulate Ghana’s mining industry while bringing its services closer to stakeholders in the Ashanti Region.

The Chief of Bantama, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, who chaired the commissioning ceremony, commended both the previous and current administrations for their collaborative efforts in ensuring the completion of the ultra-modern office complex in Kumasi.

He urged officials of the Minerals Commission to ensure the regular maintenance of the facility to enable it to serve the people of the Ashanti Region and other stakeholders effectively.
