22-Mechanised Boreholes Commissioned in Bosome Freho District to Address Water Crisis

The Bosome Freho District Assembly has commissioned 22 mechanised boreholes across the district to improve access to potable water and address the long-standing water challenges facing rural communities.

The project was executed under the leadership of the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Charles Appiah Kubi.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Wednesday at Asiwa, forms part of the Assembly’s efforts to provide relief to communities that have struggled to access safe drinking water, particularly during the dry season.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Appiah Kubi said the project was in response to appeals from communities that had, over the years, faced difficulties in accessing potable water.

“Water is life. As an Assembly, we cannot achieve our development goals if our people still walk miles in search of water. These 22 mechanised boreholes demonstrate our commitment to bringing relief to our people,” he said.

He explained that the boreholes were strategically sited based on a needs assessment conducted by the Assembly, with support from the District Works Department and traditional authorities.

According to him, the intervention will not only improve health and sanitation but also enhance school attendance and boost economic activities, particularly among women and children, who often bear the greatest burden of water scarcity.

Mr Appiah Kubi urged the beneficiary communities to take ownership of the facilities and protect them against abuse, vandalism and theft. He also called on the Water and Sanitation Management Teams (WSMTs) to ensure the proper maintenance of the boreholes to enable them to serve the communities for many years.

Traditional leaders and residents who attended the ceremony expressed gratitude to the DCE and the government for the intervention, describing it as timely and significant.

The Chief of Tebeso II, Nana Appiah Nuamah, said the mechanised boreholes would bring an end to years of dependence on unsafe water sources in many of the beneficiary communities.

The commissioning of the 22 boreholes adds to four other key projects, two Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and two school blocks initiated in December last year under the administration of Mr Appiah Kubi.

The beneficiary communities include Amormoso, Korchikrom, Tebeso I, Tebeso II, Ahwiaso, Besease, Semdadieso, Fereboye, Anyaso and Bobiam.
